The City of Pattaya will be hosting the 17th World Chinese Badminton Championship during November 19 – 21, 2010.

Jointly organized by the Thai–Chinese Friendship Association and the World Chinese Badminton Federation (WCBF), in conjunction with the Thai Young Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and the FYC Badmintion Club, this mega sports event is designed to strengthen Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations and brings together over 3,000 badminton players of Chinese descent from 15 countries from around the world. Matches will be held simultaneously on 30 badminton courts. The competition will be conducted in accordance to the rules of BWF (Badminton World Federation) and WCBF (World Chinese Badminton Federation).

Timed to coincide with Loi Krathong the Festival of Lights, one of the Kingdom's oldest and best-preserved traditions and a world event, the 17th World Chinese Badminton Championship is expected to attract another 2,000 accompanying persons in addition to the 3,000+ players. November also marks the beginning of the peak travel season for Thailand.

The hosting of the 17th World Chinese Badminton Championship reflects Pattaya’s high level of readiness to stage multiple mega events simultaneously and its immense capacity to accommodate a large number of visitors. In addition to travel convenience, the ease of transportation, and the availability of a wide range of excellent facilities, including badminton courts and accommodation covering all price ranges, the City of Pattaya and the surrounding areas of Chon Buri province offer visitors a vast selection of attractions and activities.

The list of favourite ‘must see and must do’ attractions on the Pattaya itinerary includes a visit to the new Pattaya Floating Market and the city’s many fascinating museums, such as the new Louis Tussaud's Wax Museum in the Banglamung district of Chonburi Province near Pattaya City, the Bottle Art Museum, the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum; or alternatively a trip to the impressive Sanctuary of Truth, The Three Kingdoms Park and Horseshoe Point equestrian centre and riding school, the Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Gardens or the Khao Keow Open Zoo, followed by an evening at the Tiffany Show or Alcazar Cabaret Show. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg. The list of attractions in and around Pattaya and Chon Buri province runs several pages long. This is in addition to the entertainment and nightlife and bustling ‘walking/shopping’ streets along the beachfront. Visitors are spoilt for choice.

Many of the festivals and events listed on Thailand's official calendar of annual events are traditional Buddhist or folk festivals, the date of which is either determined by the Buddhist lunar calendar and waxing and waning moon. These are not staged events. The festivals reflect the rhythm of life in rural Thai villages and local traditions as observed in times past.
